Holy Week is done at last;

Broken is our six-week fast:

Alleluias now are sung!

Festal bells can all be rung!

Finished now our watchful night;

Gloom is swept away in light!

Friday’s solemn watch is done;

Now we have some Easter fun.

Gathered we await the dawn;

Earth is shaken, veils are torn;

Soldiers flee and women run;

In confusion comes the sun.

Clouds of incense will arise;

Floating up into the skies:

But a simple hymn of praise

Can reflect the glorious rays.

Some desire the high church way

Thinking it befits the day:

Others look for plainer fare:

Simple Matins is quite rare.

So we celebrate the feast;

Sun is rising in the east.

Grill the fish and chill the wine;

Easter morn is come, let’s dine.
